Have any of you guys tried these? http://beprepared.com/category.asp_Q...amma%2520Seals
I was thinking of buying some as it is so darn hard to get the lids off the buckets without hurting myself.

They work great, but I've heard that they're not good for long-term storage and are rather designed to make it easy to get in and out of a bucket once it's opened. Apparently, over a long period of time air can leak through the place where the removable tops screws into the rim of the Gamma Seal lid.

Well then maybe I should just get them for the shorter to medium term storage items. I have them vacuum sealed in mylar and O2 absorbered so maybe not such an issue??? I don't know....feel free to chime in. Thanks

There is a rubber o-ring so it should be pretty good, but you've got a good point about why folks buy them: for access.

I plan on buying a 5-20 of these, I found at least 2 places that sell them but one of them wont deal with people on the phone and that makes me a little apprehensive to purchase from them.

I figure if a place cant bother to have someone to answer the phone and take your order How would you get a hold of them if there is a problem with your order and or if they send you crap how do you get your money back ?

Group Buy ?

Here is one source.
http://www.pyrosupplies.com/shop/pag...3e11f631e.html

I believe this is the one that does not have any phone ordering or customer service.
http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/s...ammaseals.html

There must be more of these things and from the look of shipping the closer the better.

Google is the best bet to find a mfg or distributor of this item.

Thanks strawman...I like the comment from the pyro site, "You may balk at the price of these lids, but once you start using them you will never regret buying them. These are REALLY nice.

They sell special pry-wrench things to do that, in case you did not know.

I cannot find one online that looks like the ones used where I work. I'll have to see if it's got a name on it at all.
[edit]
It is not the exact same thing, but they look kind of like the second one listed on this page:

What are your products you are storing long term? Say you are storing wheat, rice, popcorn, beans, sugar, and oatmeal. You would need 6 Gamma seals. Keep them permanently on one pail. When the wheat pail is empty, wash it out and refill from a newly opened pail of wheat. We have pails with Gamma seals for wheat, rice, sugar, oatmeal, popcorn, egg noodles, and macaroni. Those pails fit under the shelves in my pantry, and are used on a daily basis as giant canisters. We've been using the same seals for over 10 years and they're still working great.

Cool good info. thanks! You must have a big pantry!!! My stores are in my basement which I spent 5 weeks waterproofing and making it basically totally dry and airtight.

Whoa- don't get ahead of yourself. The silicon o-ringed normal bucket lids are fine for storage when combined with a mylar bag. Just get a pail opener for $6. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pro...uct%5Fid=19277

Gamma lids are a racket...

Will they reseal well after opening with the tool?

I've had no problems. The tool was designed for commercial painters who reseal their 5g buckets all the time.

Okay I will try the tool...I will probably pick up a few gamma seals just for the buckets I frequently need to open. Thanks!

Re: Gamma seals

Diversified, I would disagree that the Gamma seals are a racket. They have their place. The regular bucket lids are excellent and will reseal well over and over. They are tough and will last a long time. But, even with the lid tool to help open them the wear and tear on the lid does show up after time.

That's where the Gamma has a propose and an advantage. I only have them on buckets I am in and out of all the time. Like my sugar bucket and my wheat and rice buckets.

Some here have said they don't seal as well as the regular lids and while that is probably true it ain't gonna be by much. Meaning no difference would show up for maybe 20 years. I have no data for this, it is an opinion.
